Thank you Acting Deputy President I'm also rising today to share a speech as part of the Raise Our Voice campaign, and I'm delighted to do so on behalf of Sophie. Sophie is 10 years old and lives in the best state of Australia of course being South Australia, and I am so pleased to share her words with you today:
To help build a better future for tomorrow, we need to build affordable homes. When we move out of home, we will find it hard to save up enough money to buy a home. Houses have gotten so expensive, meaning lots of people can't afford anything. We need to have something to help us buy land and build a house, such as a government rebate to discount the land and house build. Thank you for listening to our voice.
I want to say thank you, Sophie, for sharing your speech with us on an issue that is of such great importance to so many people in our state of South Australia, and I want to assure you that we are working very hard as a government to build more homes, to help more young Australians to buy a home and to ease pressures on renters. So, thank you, Sophie, for sharing your ideas. I have no doubt this won't be the last time that your words and ideas influence the work of federal parliament.
